NCRPO looking for volunteers to replace 1,000 relieved Caloocan cops

The National Capital Region Police Office is looking for police volunteers who will replace the more than 1,000 relieved Caloocan City policemen.

NCRPO chief Director Oscar Albayalde said they are now looking for volunteers from other police regional offices.

"Naghahanap na rin ng volunteers na puwdeng pumunta dyan, [mula sa] iba ibang region," Albayalde said in a radio dzBB interview on Saturday.

The police official, meanwhile, said that Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa had instructed them to carefully vet the new set of police officers who will be assigned to the Caloocan City Police Station.

Albayalde ordered the relief of the 1,200-strong Caloocan City police following the latest controversy involving its members, where a group of policemen were caught on CCTV camera illegal entering and ransacking the house of a civilian.

The incident happened as the police force is embroiled in the controversial killings of teenagers Kian Loyd delos Santos and Carl Angelo Arnaiz.

Only newly-assigned Caloocan City police chief Senior Superintendent Jemar Modequillo and Deputy Chief for Administration Chief Inspector Ilustre Mendoza were retained by Albayalde.

The NCRPO chief said policemen who will be assigned to the Caloocan City Police Station will undergo stricter background investigations.

He said a total of 297 policemen from police community precincts 2, 4, and 7  had already been reassigned to the NCRPO's Regional Public Safety Battalion to undergo a 45-day retraining.

Albayalde said the number excludes the policemen involved in the killings of Delos Santos and Arnaiz and the ransacking of a woman's house last Thursday.
